 about us

LegallyBlack® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in January 2020 with the primary goal of bridging the gap between intellectual property resources and underserved communities. Intellectual Property (IP) is a body of law designed to protect and enforce the rights of creators and owners of inventions. Throughout history, the creative work and inventions of people of color have been overlooked, undervalued, and exploited.

At LegallyBlack our mission is to empower and enlighten communities of color on the value of IP law protection. We offer free, tailored workshops for middle school through college students, as well as creative groups on the basics of IP protection. We believe that increasing IP literacy is key to fostering innovation, safeguarding creativity, and promoting economic growth, especially within underserved communities. By pouring into the next generation of creatives, we can contribute to a more informed and protected society.
